Does your website suffer from the three critical web design flaws?
Download our Website Design Checklist to avoid these three common mistakes
Confused about what to look for when finding a web design company? There are so many of them, and the price range is so broad—from free to tens of thousands of dollars. We’d like to help you out by letting you know about the three most critical web design flaws that plague most websites. This way, you’ll know exactly what to look for when selecting a business to do your website.
Mistake #1: Zero Strategic Marketing Content
Most web design companies prefer not to create content for your website. Typically, when you get a quote they want you to provide them with all text and images. This is for good reason. They are programmers and (possibly) designers, not marketing consultants. And even if they do write content for you, the odds are very high that it will be ineffective because they are not trained as marketing copywriters. Since they are not trained, it makes sense that they will unknowingly use platitudes in the content, which will cause dismal results.
Understand that the most marketing leverage available in your website is in the content, not in fancy features. For example, our customers get better response from their marketing materials by just having us re-write the content. Using a scientifically-based consultative process, we create a strategic marketing message so your customers and prospects buy from you rather than your competitors. You can learn more about this on the Insightful Marketing Program™ page.
Mistake #2: Outdated Coding
It is not an understatement to say that you must incorporate mobile marketing into your marketing plans within the next three years, otherwise your competitors will capture your business. At current adoption rates, mobile access to the Internet is expected to surpass desktop access by 2014. To ensure that mobile Internet users can access your website, you should avoid Flash and other outdated technology.
You must have a website that not only looks good, but that WORKS with a variety of mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, Android-based phones and tablets). This means your website must use a “responsive design”. In “coding” terms, this means the website code must be “HTML5 and CSS3 compliant”. In “regular” language, this means your website automatically accommodates itself based on whether the customer is using a desktop computer, tablet or a smartphone.
Use of a responsive design will not only have your website working properly and looking good, this also means that new features—such as photo “sliders”—will respond to touch input, making it a breeze to navigate on mobile devices!
Mistake #3: Video Script Uses Platitudes
Videos are a very powerful way to communicate quickly and effectively with your potential customers. And like with the web designers, most videos companies will tend to use platitudes in their scripts. Again, they will not have the skills required to produce an effective marketing video. At Insightful Marketing Inc., we include video production in all of our web design packages, and we properly script the video using our advanced scientific process.
